Sibling Group
Siblings of children with developmental disabilities have experiences like none other. The joys and challenges that face them are greatly numbered and varied. Siblings often need to learn to cope with a wide range of issues, including relating to their sibling, friendships, and change over time. Siblings often struggle with feelings of embarrassment and shame and fear what their friends will say about their sibling, their family, and even themselves. Siblings frequently need to learn how to cope with the challenging behaviors and resource limitations that accompany having a sibling with a developmental disability.
As such, children who have a sibling with a developmental disability often benefit from support and even psychotherapy. The professionals at Developmental Enhancement, PLC are aware of these needs and will be providing clinical therapy groups for siblings of children with developmental differences. Acknowledging the many sibling support groups that are provided in the Grand Rapids region, these groups will be clinically focused and intentionally therapeutic in nature.
